#29 Monochrome

Ghosts of colors long ago
hover in corners of memory.
They haunt the streets and
taunt the people,
do you remember the colors
of spring?

Whirlwinds of violets in
lavender and mauve,
rioting yellows of
sunlight dandelion
and buttermilk daffodil,
kaleidoscope sunsets,
and cardinal red.

Days when greens
slid into my dreams,
Crayola’s Jungle
and Screamin Green
sprouted into my hand
and climbed like vines
Up the sides of houses.

I remember life in technicolor;
My friend’s smile in buttercup hues,
The cherry red on top of a cake,
The cobalt blue of a bike ride sky,
And rainbows of unnamed tints,
Stretching from me to you.
